Author Guidelines

1. Aims and Scholarly Orientation

The Indonesian Journal of Economics and Business Studies (IJEBS) publishes original, high-quality research that advances scholarly understanding of economics, business, management, finance, and accounting, with a particular emphasis on the Indonesian and Southeast Asian context. Manuscripts must demonstrate a clear and explicit contribution to international academic debates in these fields.

Submissions are expected not only to address economic or business phenomena but also to engage meaningfully with theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence, or policy implications that extend beyond local or descriptive accounts.

2. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

IJEBS welcomes the following types of manuscripts.

Original Research Articles Empirical, theoretical, or mixed-methods studies presenting new findings in economics, business, management, finance, or accounting.

Review Articles Systematic or narrative literature reviews that synthesise existing knowledge and identify research gaps in the relevant fields.

Conceptual or Theoretical Articles Framework development, model building, or normative analysis grounded in established theoretical traditions.

Comparative Studies Cross-country, cross-institutional, or cross-sectoral analyses that offer generalisable insights beyond a single context.

Short Communications Preliminary findings or noteworthy observations of sufficient scholarly interest to merit rapid dissemination.

Book reviews, teaching notes, and purely descriptive reports without analytical contribution are not considered for publication.

3. Methodological Standards

Manuscripts may employ quantitative, qualitative, doctrinal, or mixed methodologies, provided that the following conditions are met.

  • The research design is clearly articulated and justified.
  • Data sources, sampling procedures, and analytical methods are transparent and replicable.
  • Empirical findings are contextualised within relevant theoretical or conceptual frameworks.
  • Case studies demonstrate analytical relevance and transferability beyond the immediate local context.

4. Abstract Requirements

All manuscripts must include a structured English abstract of 150–250 words, placed at the beginning of the article. The abstract must explicitly state the following elements.

  • Research background and problem statement
  • Research objective(s)
  • Methodology and data sources
  • Key findings and results
  • Theoretical, practical, or policy contribution

Abstracts that are purely descriptive, excessively brief, or lacking a clear statement of contribution will be returned without review.

5. Manuscript Structure

A standard research article should follow the IMRaD structure and include the sections listed below.

  • Introduction (background, research gap, objectives, and paper outline)
  • Literature Review or Theoretical Framework
  • Methodology (research design, data, variables, and analytical approach)
  • Results and Discussion (findings, interpretation, and comparison with existing literature)
  • Conclusion (summary, contributions, limitations, and future research directions)
  • Acknowledgements (optional)
  • Data Availability Statement (required)
  • Conflict of Interest Statement (required)
  • References

Submissions must clearly articulate what is new, why it matters, and to whom it matters within the broader international academic community.

6. Language Policy

All manuscripts must be written in clear and concise academic English. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission. Manuscripts with significant language issues may be returned for revision before entering peer review. Extended English abstracts are mandatory for manuscripts based primarily on local or regional case studies.

7. Citation Management and Referencing Standards

To ensure accuracy, consistency, and academic integrity, all authors are required to use reference management software in preparing their manuscripts. Accepted tools include, but are not limited to, Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, and other reputable reference management applications.

Manuscripts must demonstrate the following.

  • Consistent in-text citations and a complete reference list
  • Accurate bibliographic metadata for all cited works
  • Full compliance with the journal's citation style (APA 7th Edition)

A minimum of 20 references is required for research articles, with at least 80% sourced from peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last 10 years. Authors are expected to engage with international scholarly literature, including recent publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or other reputable databases. Submissions with manually formatted or inconsistent references may be returned for correction prior to peer review.

8. Citation Style

IJEBS adopts APA Style, 7th Edition, for all in-text citations and reference lists. References must be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author. All journal article references must include a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) where one is available.

9. Ethical Standards and Peer Review

IJEBS applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process. All submissions are screened for the following criteria.

  • Originality and absence of plagiarism (maximum 20% similarity index, excluding references and standard boilerplate text)
  • Alignment with the journal's aims and scope
  • Methodological rigour and soundness of analysis
  • Clarity and significance of scholarly contribution

Manuscripts that do not align with the journal's scope or fail to meet minimum quality standards will be desk-rejected without external review. Authors are expected to adhere fully to the IJEBS Publication Ethics policy, including requirements on authorship, conflict of interest, data availability, and research ethics.

10. Out-of-Scope Reminder

The following submissions will be rejected without review.

  • Purely descriptive studies without analytical or theoretical engagement
  • Manuscripts lacking a clearly stated research question, objective, or contribution
  • Studies that do not situate their findings within relevant international scholarly literature
  • General reports, project evaluations, or institutional case studies without academic rigour
  • Manuscripts focused solely on topics outside IJEBS's defined subject areas (see Aims and Scope)
